Tower Tip: Accessible Gardening

Join resident Garden Tower® 2 Vertical Gardening System expert and master gardener Kristi Armes as she shares her accessible gardening experiences. This video was originally broadcast on Facebook Live on April 7, 2018.

About Kristi

Kristi was born with scoliosis and spina bifida. She uses a rolling chair for gardening when her back pain troubles her. The Garden Tower® 2 Vertical Gardening System rotates on its base, allowing her to easily access its pockets.

Watering the top of the tower with a heavy bucket, however, can be difficult. Instead of using a bucket, she uses a hose with a “water breaker,“ which creates a gentle shower that doesn’t damage the plants. It’s just as easy to water the side pockets.

There is no smaller or less expensive version of the Garden Tower® 2 planting system, as most of the cost of the unit is in the research and engineering which allows the product to spin and distribute water correctly. If you want to shorten your tower, just omit a few rings and tube sections.
